Terence McKenna & Riane Eisler ~ Man & Woman At The End Of History (1988)

Terence McKenna & Riane Tennenhaus Eisler
Man And Woman At The End Of History. Ojai CA, Mill Valley CA. (1988)

This seminar examined how one of the most fundamental human relationships, that between male and female, shapes our relationship to technology and ultimately to culture and nature. We looked at the forms of relationship between women and men in the shift from a society based on domination to one based on partnership. This is an exploration of how feminism, technology and the telling of a new story will contribute to rescuing us from history. Riane Eisler is best known for her scholarily authoring of her formidable book, "Chalice and the Blade."

Note: This recording comes from a serialization on Roy of Hollywood's show on KPFK. It ends with Terence cut short mid sentence.

Terence McKenna: Language About The Unspeakable ~ Part 6/6

Raving In The Light Of The Third Millennium
Language About The Unspeakable
Maui, Hawaii, February 1994

Firstly, many thanks to Kevin Esbensen for making this upload possible. Kevin had a VHS copy from the original event (Recorded by AXIOM, I can't find them on the net and these recordings seem to be no longer available, I will gladly remove them upon request) which he then converted to DVD and kindly sent copies to me at his own expense to be shared with the community here. I'm very grateful to be able to present this for you on Kevin's behalf.

This talk has only appeared in audio format as far as I know on The Psychedelic Salon as, "In Praise Of Psychedelics" and here as, "Speaking The Unspeakable". As a host of a channel that archives McKenna material it's a great pleasure to be able to bring you something new (to the web) that may have been lost to time if not for the foresight and generosity of Mr. Esbensen, thank you Kevin.

A Deep Dive Into The Mind Of McKenna

This Episode of The Psychedelic Salon Podcast is a must hear for any student of McKenna or casual listener alike. There are some home truths and insights into Terence that will come as a surprise to many and has made me begin listening to these talks again with this information and light shone on McKenna the person, for me it makes him all the more human, conflicted and complex a character... one of us.

Lorenzo ends the podcast with the great news that more tapes (over 160!) will be digitized and aired on The Psychedelic Salon in the coming months, so get yourselves over there and support the Podcast.

Much love, thanks and respect to Lorenzo, Bruce, Dennis and Kat for sharing this with us.

This program is a recording of part of a live event at the Esalen Institute near Big Sur, California. The workshop, titled "Terence McKenna: Beyond 2012", was led by Bruce Damer and Lorenzo Hagerty. This specific recording took place on Saturday morning, June 16th and consists of Bruce's "deep dive" into the mind of McKenna. It begins with Bruce's "Ode to Terence" and is followed by Bruce's readings of parts of the soon-to-be published book by Terence's brother, Dennis . . . the book's title: "Brotherhood of the Screaming Abyss".

The Village is the Village, the Land is the Land, the Suicide of the Spaceman and Other Stories (1996)

I've been digging for a copy of this or any information regarding it since a friend (Andrew. G) told me about it in the late 90's and I fell in love with the title. I've also seen the title translated as, "The Village...the Village...the Earth...the Earth, and the Suicide of the Astronaut." It is a children's book by Muammar Gaddafi that from what I can glean takes a sarcastic swipe at Western history. This PDF is in Arabic and was uploaded online last year. Gaddafi would have been 70 this month (according to some sources, it's vague, some say Spring others September). I was excited just to see it and the illustrations until I can get it translated. Due to the lack of information I've been able to find on it (There's less on the net than there was 5 years ago) if not an occult book it's certainly hidden.

Terence McKenna: Speaking The Unspeakable

Lecture given by Terence McKenna in early 1994 on the Hawaiian island of Maui.

"Anyone who loves adventure, and who loves life, and who loves the experience of being, has an obligation, I think, to explore this [the psychedelic realm]. It's as much a part of your identity as your sexuality, your ancestral history, or your hopes and fears. And to ignore it is to choose to play with less than a full deck. Don't do that. Play with a full deck!"

"Millions of people right now are being warehoused by television. Television is the heroin of the electrified middle class."

"It's ridiculous to criticize a drug you haven't taken. It's sheer, boneheaded, know-nothingism."

Resurrect Dead: The Mystery of the Toynbee Tiles (2011)

Toynbee tiles are linoleum tiles of unknown origin found embedded in the asphalt of streets in about two dozen major cities in the United States and four South American capitals. Since the 1980s, several hundred tiles have been discovered. They are generally about the size of an American license plate and contain some variation on the following inscription:

TOYNBEE IDEA
IN KUBRICK'S 2001
RESURRECT DEAD
ON PLANET JUPITER.

In the course of the film, evidence is presented that a reclusive Philadelphia resident, Severino “Sevy” Verna, placed the tiles through a hole in the floor of his car while broadcasting a message via short wave radio about his theories. ~ wiki

Terence McKenna: Dreaming Awake At The End Of Time (1998)

Dreaming Awake At The End Of Time
San Francisco, December 13, 1998

Join Terence McKenna, author, explorer and philosopher for a think along deconstruction of the deepening worldwide weirdness. With his characteristic hope and humor, McKenna examined time and its mysteries, the nature of language, the techniques of ecstasy, high technology and virtual cyberspace, the role of hallucinogenic plants in shamanism and the evolution of human cultures, and the foundations of post-modern spirituality. The lecture and discussion was didactic, syncretic, challenging, eclectic, eidetic and irreverent intellectual adventure - "for those who have grown weary of Moldevite suppositories and unicorny flimflam!

Peter J. Carroll: Liber Null (1978) Psychonaut (1982) (published 1987)

Peter J. Carroll is a leading figure within the Chaos Magic movement. Along with "The New Equinox" publisher and writer Ray Sherwin, Carroll is widely considered to be the originator of Chaos Magic as an independent field of occult exploration.

A meeting between Peter J. Carroll and Ray Sherwin in Deptford in 1976 has been claimed as the birthplace of chaos magic, and in 1978 Carroll and Sherwin founded the Illuminates of Thanateros (IOT), a chaos magic organization. Liber Null (1978) by Peter J. Carroll further developed this new, experimental perspective on magic. This book and Carroll's Psychonaut (1981) remain important sources.

Hazelwood Trialogue: Part 4 - Fractals (Terence McKenna, Rupert Sheldrake, Ralph Abraham)

Hazelwood Trialogue: Part 4 ~ Fractals

Terence McKenna, Rupert Sheldrake, Ralph Abraham

Hazelwood, Devon, England, June 1993
Ralph tells a fractal story and explains how fractal models can illuminate our understanding of the world. Applying fractals to individual psychology.. The need for chaos and disorder in the personality. Multiple personality 'dischaos'. A 'sandy beach' model of the mind. Therapeutic strategies to increase chaos. The need to restore pantheism. A mathematical model for monogamy. Order and chaos must be balanced. Multiple attractors at the end of time. A polytheistic psychology. The unity within polytheistic systems.. Cultures and individuals need fractal rather than rigid boundaries. A fractal cosmos.

The mystery of the Holy Trinity. The loss of unity through rigid boundaries. How can we fractalize our boundaries and create unity? Psychedelics, meditation, travel, tantra and chanting. Returning to the pre-verbal mode of expression. What about people whose boundaries are too low already? The cure to boundary anxiety can be found within. Is there any culture that has managed to avoid 'dischaos'? Questions and answers: The Aristotelian perspective of modern science needs to be balanced by the Platonic. Maths anxiety. Chaos is a kind of order and vice versa. Jung's deconstruction of Yahweh. The sacred trinity of the goddess. Recovering the aboriginal state of consciousness. Cultural taboos.

Aleister Crowley - Magic Without Tears (1954)

Magick Without Tears, a series of letters, was the last book written by English occultist Aleister Crowley (1875–1947), although it was not published until after his death. It was written in the mid-1940s and published in 1954 with a forward by its editor, Karl Germer.

The book consists of 80 letters to various students of magick. Originally to be titled Aleister Explains Everything, the letters offer his insights into both magick and Thelema ~ Crowley's religious and ethical system ~ with a clarity and wit often absent in his earlier writings. The individual topics are widely varied, addressing the orders O.T.O. and A∴A∴, Qabalah, Thelemic morality, Yoga, astrology, various magical techniques, religion, death, spiritual visions, the Holy Guardian Angel, and other issues such as marriage, property, certainty, and meanness. The book is considered by many as evidence that Crowley remained lucid and mentally capable at the end of his life, despite his addiction to heroin.

Hazelwood Trialogue: Part 3 - Time (Terence McKenna, Rupert Sheldrake, Ralph Abraham)

Hazelwood Trialogue: Part 3 ~ Time

Terence McKenna, Rupert Sheldrake, Ralph Abraham

Hazelwood, Devon, England, June 1993

Changing the way we look at time. Orthodoxy's teachings about time. Apocalyptic intuitions from psychoactive plants. Complexity and novelty in the universe. Terence's attempts to construct a new temporal cosmology. Is the universe being pulled and shaped by a transcendental attractor? Is our planetary crisis really some kind of birth? Using dream, yoga and psychedelics to glimpse the transcendental attractor. Myths of time and their differing impact upon cultures. Life as a strategy for the conquest of dimensionality, including the conquest of time. Metamorphosis and boundary dissolution. Does Terence's vision concern the transformation of this planet or of the entire universe?

Vacuum fluctuations and the potential disappearance of the material universe. 2012 and the timetable of Terence's Novelty theory. The role of entheogens in the preparation for the future. A cosmic initiation ritual. Questions and answers: A geometric theory of spirituality. Encouraging the creative and artistic impulse. Neo-archaism and the shamanic art of gaining a familiarity with death. The need to minimise materialism within our society. The need to re-empower our sense of self and community. The 'union of opposites'. History as an alchemical process. 'All time rests within eternity'.

Please Help Save The NHS

The NHS has been fixing and looking after me these past 3 days after rushing there on Wednesday in crippling pain (pneumonia). These people are angels and the institution is one of our greatest treasures.
If you can spare a minute and want to help, this blogger would be very grateful.

Dear friends across Britain,

The battle to save the NHS is now entering its final hours. David Cameron and Andrew Lansley seem determined to drag Britain's most famous institution to its grave, but if we now stand together we can get the House of Lords to stop this bill in its tracks.

Public outrage is gripping the country as the Prime Minister persists with a bill that would dismantle the NHS and open the field to private companies. The government refuses to publish its internal report on the risks of the reforms, one reason among many why thousands of health professionals and many politicians oppose the changes. If we now build a massive outcry we can sway our last line of defence -- the House of Lords -- to save the NHS.

Let’s call on the undecided members in the House of Lords to keep the knives off our NHS and ensure we can all read the official risk report -- sign here and circulate. Our voices will ramp up the pressure as we deliver our petition when we reach key milestones between now and Monday:

The coalition promised no top-down reorganisation of the National Health Service. Yet it's brought in a bill that threatens to turn large chunks of the NHS over on a plate to private health care companies and cost-cutting consultants, threatening a tidal wave of privatisation that will leave our health system expensive and fragmented, with many of us getting only low-quality care. Citizens are outraged -- according to the latest polls, over half of us want the new bill to be scrapped.

Public opposition has already delayed the bill and forced several amendments, but the government is refusing to halt the reforms, wrongly insisting that opponents are just a minority group of disgruntled health care professionals and political opponents. The fight for the NHS now depends on the 200 members of the House of Lords who don't belong to a political party. They aren't used to public scrutiny, so if we target them now, we can win and ensure that any reforms of our precious health service are done in concert with health professionals and patients.

We only have until Monday to tip the balance. The recommendation to delay the debate until after the risk register has been released will throw the NHS a lifeline and allow us all to see the likely impact of this bill. Sign the petition, and send widely.

Britain is proud of the NHS, which has saved countless lives and won admirers across the world. Let’s act now and ensure our health care system stays free for all.

With hope,

Sam, Antonia, Alex, Alice, Jamie, Ricken and the rest of the Avaaz team
