David Lynch: Catching The Big Fish (Audiobook, 2006)

I'm a big fan of Lynch (especially his music) and this book offers a peak through the window into his creative workings. I'm less a fan of TM (Transcendental Meditation) which is David's method for catching the big fish and more in tune with another TM (Terence McKenna) who also speaks about catching the big fish, his method being the use of psychedelics. Lynch is dismissive of psychedelics here, claiming Transcendental Meditation can bring you that experience yet admits he has never tried anything stronger than a joint...this is a great sadness.

However you decide to go fishing is up to you and the notion of catching the big fish is relevant to whatever method you choose.

You seem to be somewhat dismissive of Transcendental Meditation, a technique that many of us have found to be beneficial in many ways; profoundly deep and powerful for unlocking psychic doorways of intuition and creativity. (See the book "The Intuitive Edge" by Philip Goldberg.) Have you ever actually practiced Transcendental Meditation yourself? If so, did you do that regularly over a period of at least a month or so, before judging its effectiveness? If not, then aren't you being unduly dismissive of it, just as you say Lynch is being towards psychedelics?

I have, but spent more time with Buddhist breath meditation, and continue to do so. Though both have their merits and I wouldn't want to dissuade people from either, to compare old man (guru) wisdom to true shamanism (plant wisdom)seems to me to be disingenuous.
